And that is stumps. India finish day one at 307 for six. 97 from Virat Kohli and 81 from Ajinkya Rahane was the backbone of that innings. But both got out against the run of play. Openers Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul laid a good foundation with a 60-run stand before Kohli and Rahane combined for 159 runs for the fourth wicket. Chris Woakes picked the first three wickets to fall. Adil Rashid pirzed out Kohli and James Ansderson finished the day with one wicket – that makes him only the second bowler after Muttiah Muratharan to take 100 wickets against India. Overall it was an even day. England edged the first session, while India won the second with their first wicketless session of the series. The third was shared by both the teams.
