India vs South Africa 2015, 1st ODI: Security beefed up at Green Park Stadium, Kanpur ahead of clash

Due to the incident at Cuttack security in stadiums across the country has been stepped up.

Kanpur: Security has been beefed up at Green Park stadium at Kanpur, venue for the first One-Day International (ODI) match between India and South Africa on Sunday, with CCTV cameras installed across the arena. District officer Koushal Raj and SSP Shalabh Mathur said that 12 paramilitary companies, including CISF battalions, have been deployed at the venue. “Apart from this 3000 police personnel were deployed inside and outside the stadium. We have also called police personnel from other districts to make adequate arrangements on security,” they said. They added that police, including female personnel, were also deployed to keep stern vigil on audience during the game. They added that to ease expected traffic chaos during the match, two traffic inspector, 35 sub inspector, 50 head constable and 100 traffic police personnel will be deployed. CCTV cameras had been installed at the venue as well as the hotel, where the players would stay. The venue and the hotel have been divided into 18 zones and 45 sectors. They added that in these zones and sectors, magistrate, police officers and circle manager will be deployed to thwart untoward incidents. Mathur said that the police will be deployed from October 10, the day before match, and movement near the venue will be restricted. Sharma said that only sunglasses and mobiles will be allowed inside the venue. He added that snacks will be available inside the venue and administration has fixed their rates.
