Having won the three-match Test series with a game to spare, India will be eyeing a series sweep as they take on South Africa in the third and final Test of the series, starting Saturday, at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi.
With the series already won, earlier, such kind of matches were considered dead rubbers. Not any more though with the launch of the ICC World Test Championship. While India are sitting at the the top of the points table with 200 points against their name, there will be 40 more points that they will be targetting to extend their lead over the second-placed New Zealand to 180 points.
South Africa, meanwhile, will want points and a consolation win as they take the field in Ranchi. The Faf du Plessis-led unit, barring a fight in their first innings with the bat in the first Test at Vizag, has looked hapless. While their batsmen have failed to find consistency, their bowlers are yet to bowl out India across two Tests.
In both the Tests, after batting first, India have scored big and will look to continue the same in the third Test. The likes of Mayank Agarwal, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli been scored hundreds for India and the Indian team management will not mind the same trend continuing in Ranchi.
Coming to India’s bowling, the spin twins of R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja and the pacers – Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma – have not disappointed their captain and if they continue their good show with the ball, India will remain favourites to complete the clean sweep.
