The Indian Women were skittled out for a measly 142 by the New Zealand Women during the 1st One-Day International (ODI) at Bangalore. The Indians never really managed to put together a sizeable partnership, losing wickets at regular intervals. The visiting New Zealanders will be vvery ppositive about their chances in this match after keeping the hosts down to such a paltry total. The Indian top order fell prey to some fine seam bowling by Lea Tuhuhu and clever spin bowling by Morna Nielsen and Leigh Kasperek. While the bowling was decent throughout, India were also guilty of needlessly throwing away wickets to harmless full tosses on more than one occasion.

Jhulan Goswami was the only batter to make any kind of impact finishing with a gutsy 57, however she did not receive any support in the middle order. Skipper Mithali Raj got a start up the order with 17 runs, but failed to make it productive.

Overall the Indians were undone by a combination of good bowling and senseless batting. The New Zealand women will be confident of chasing this down. The Indian seamers will take heart from the greenish tinge on the ground however, and will try to make early inroads.
