India Women secure comfortable win by 34 runs against Sri Lanka Women, after 7 wickets down and scoring just 96 runs on board in 20 overs in 1st T20I at Ranchi. India were continuously restricting Sri Lanka at regular intervals with three wickets down within 4 overs and from 11th to 19th over Sri Lanka faced fall of four wickets. India came out strong after posing a low total on board and knew they had to show their skills over bowling. Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur were the only highest run scorer for India with 35 and 36 runs. But Anuja Patil gave India the required victory with three wickets in the initial overs. Charmari Athapaththu and Yasoda Mendia opened the innings for Sri Lanka, with Yasoda being knocked off quite early in the first over by Anuja Patil. It was Charmari’s turn to be shown the way out and once again it was Anuja who attacked. She had two wickets already on her bag and gave the start India were looking for. Nipuni Hansika was the next batswoman who came in to bat but was short lived with just three runs from her end and Nipuni was lbw once again by Anuja Patil. Dilani Manodara was continuing her innings right from 2nd over to end of the innings being the highest scorer for Sri Lanka with 41 runs. From 11th to 19th over Sri Lanka lost four wickets and Deepti Sharma came in at the death overs and got two wickets making it difficult for Sri Lanka to post more runs on board. Udeshika Prabodhani came in for the last ball and was unable to score any run. India Women had won the toss and elected to bat first.
