Indian Eves commenced the third T20I in style. Though they lost Mithali Raj for nought, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and opener Smriti Mandhana took on the South African bowlers early. Smriti’s form and Harmanpreet’s striking had them going, before Shabnim Ismail’s career-best figures snatched the momentum from India. From 93 for 2, India were dismissed for 133 in 17.5 overs. Shabnim accounted for half of the wickets. (The last five wickets fell for nine runs.)
Smriti took a liking towards hitting Shabnim in her first over. Compiling 4 fours off the medium pacer, Shabnim had to bounce back. She did that in emphatic manner, depicting her mindset. Smriti and Harmanpreet added 56 runs by then. The moment Shabnim returned to the attack, she turned things around single-handedly. From 1-0-17-0, her final figures read 4-0-30-5. Shabnim took Jeminah Rodrigues, Harmanpreet and Veda Krishnamurthy’s scalps, and registered her maiden five-for by removing the tail. Like the men’s team, the women’s middle and lower order looked clueless.
Indian Eves will rely on their bowlers to restrict the opposition, and take an unassailable lead in the five T20Is.
