Navi Mumbai: Apr 27, 2011

Subramanium Badrinath struck an unbeaten half-century as Chennai Super Kings coasted to an eight-wicket victory over Pune Warriors India at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

Badrinath raised an unbroken half-century stand with Suresh Raina as Chennai chased down Pune’s victory target of 142 with three balls to spare.

He also added 62 runs for the second wicket with Subramanium Badrinath as the pair gave the required momentum to the Chennai innings after the early dismissal of Michael Hussey.

Badrinath was more aggressive of the two – taking special liking for left-arm spinner Murali Kartik for two fours and a glorious straight six to glean 16 off the 9th over.

The pair were up against some tight Pune bowling, initially before Badrinath took the attack to the opposition.

Vijay looked sedate by his own aggressive standards and got his first four in the sixth over. He greeted Jesse Ryder into the bowling attack with a huge six before falling in the same over for 31.

Badrinath banged Yuvraj Singh over long-off in the next over for his second six.

Earlier, Kartik gave Pune the breakthrough when he had in-form Michael Hussey caught brilliantly by Manish Pandey for 9.

Brief Scores: PWI 141 for 6 in 20 overs (Yuvraj Singh 62*, Robin Uthappa 31; Doug Bollinger 3 for 21, Nuwan Kulasekara 1 for 26 Ravichandran Ashwin 1 for 29, Tim Southee 1 for 33) lost to CSK 145 for 2 in 19.3 overs (Subramanium Badrinath 63*, Suresh Raina 34*; Murali Kartik 1 for 27, Jesse Ryder 1 for 21) by 8 wickets.
