Pune Warriors India need to chase 165 to win against Chennai Super Kings in their Indian Premier League match at Chennai on Thursday.
After losing the toss Chennai Super Kings got off to a great start putting a 116 run stand, highest for them this season. Replacing Murali Vijay as opening partner to the in-form Faf du Plessis, Subrmanium Badrinath played a responsible innings to give a decent start which his team had failed to put up in its previous five matches of this season.
However the CSK innings was filled with caution in its first half. Badrinath on one end was struggling o get the big shots, while his partner du Plessis kept the momentum going with some big hits at regular intervals. By the end of 14th over the defending champions were at 100/0, which didn’t look threatening considering that they had 10 wickets in hand.
Just when the openers were looking threatening to go after the bowling Marlon Samuels dismissed both the openers in consecutive deliveries and the 116 run stand came to an end.
The stage was set for two new batsmen MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina to hit some big shots. However CSK squandered the advantage after they lost big hitter Suresh Raina for a duck.
For Pune Warriors India, the bowlers did a good job keeping the CSK batsman tied up till the end, not allowing any loose balls. Murali Kartik conceded only 24 off his four overs
However MS Dhoni will look to defend this modest target. He’ll bank upon his strike bowler Doug Bollinger and Ravichandran Ashwin to get early breakthroughs.
For Pune Jesse Ryder will be the key. Along with Robin Uthappa, the attacking openers will look pick as many runs as possible within the first six overs.
Brief Score: CSK in 164 for 5 in 20 overs (Faf du Plessis 58, S Badrinath 57; Marlon Samuels 3 for 39, Ashish Nehra 2 for 23) vs PWI
