Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) player Luke Pomersbach’s father George says his son was embarrassed to inform him about being held in the alleged molestation case in an Indian Premier League(IPL) after-match party.

“My son called up from India on Friday and said, ‘daddy, I am in trouble. I have been wrongly charged in some sexual allegations.’ Luke wanted to convey the news to us before we hear it in the media.”

“My son has now got more publicity (for the wrong reasons, of course) than the Prime Minister of Australia. My immediate advice to him was to seek the assistance of his franchise. I am happy that RCB are assisting him in every possible way and I hope he has hired a good lawyer to defend himself,” George was quoted saying by Mid-day.

Luke has had a brush with law in the past as well. In August 2008, Luke was charged for assaulting police in Perth while allegedly trying to escape their custody on being stopped after an accident. He was drunk while driving, according to the police when he rammed his car into another vehicle.

Pomersbach has also suffered from depression bouts.

“My son suffered depression in the past, but he has overcome it. He had an accidental debut for Australia in a T20 International against NZ in Perth (December 2007). He was not selected in the original squad for the match. But having been at the ground as a spectator, his name was recommended by Adam Gilchrist when a back injury to Brad Hodge during the warm-up forced the Australian team to call him as an emergency replacement,” added George
