Rajasthan Royals all-rounder Kevon Cooper says he cried when he learned about the ligament injury, which ruled him out from the remainder of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2012.
Cooper, a Caribbean cricketer, had to return home as a torn ligament and chipped bone in right knee meant he could not continue playing for Rajasthan Royals.
The 23-year-old cricketer suffered the injury during his side’s clash against Delhi Daredevils last month.
“The guy hit the ball down (by) me for six and I tried to (parry) it back in. When I land, I (twisted) my knee and I just feel pain,” Cooper said.
“I just lie down on the ground. I knew something was wrong. They rushed me to the hospital and they said I’d be out for six weeks. I actually cried when I hear that because I was really enjoying IPL,” Cooper expressed.
He added, “I got 10 wickets and I was really looking forward to getting the purple cap (for the leading wicket-taker). It’s a disappointing end for me but it’s good to be back home with friends and family. I hope I recover (quickly).”
Cooper, who plays for Trinidad and Tobago in the West Indies, also played in the Bangladesh Premier League for the Chittagong Super Kings.
Cooper told T&T Newsday, “I think I made a good name for myself when I went there,” he said. “Not much people knew me and my performance in the first game, getting four wickets and making (11) runs at the end (against Kings XI Punjab).”
“I think it was a dream come true for me. I cherish every moment of it but it’s a bit disappointing for me to end my IPL this way,” he concluded.
