MS Dhoni is likely to reunite with his former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) coach Stephen Fleming. The Pune franchise, owned by Sanjeev Goenka’s New Rising, are likely to appoint Fleming as their coach. The franchise will confirm on the same in coming days. On Tuesday, the Pune team bought five players — MS Dhoni, Ravichandran Ashwin, Faf du Plessis, Ajinkya Rahane and Steven Smith. Harsh Goenka, chairman of RPG enterprises and brother of Sanjeev Goenka, tweeted that they are looking to build a core team with MS Dhoni and Fleming, soon after the IPL Draft. As reported by Times of India, Fleming is tight-lipped on any movement and said, “I am not in a position to make any comment at this point in time.” Fleming-Dhoni partnerships has helped win CSK two IPL titles and were runners-up thrice, which is why Pune is keen to rope in Fleming as their coach. As the negotiations are on, Sanjeev Goenka said on Wednesday, “We have approached a lot of people and have shortlisted a few. But I don’t think it would be right to reveal any names at this stage. We are in the final process of negotiations and you have to wait for a couple of more days for the name.” ALSO READ: Sourav Ganguly: MS Dhoni’s fate in IPL 9 and 10 should be left to team owners
Sanjeev also co-owns Indian Super League (ISL) team Atletico de Kolkata with Sourav Ganguly. When asked if Ganguly could be option as the coach for Pune franchise, Sanjeev ruled it out saying, “We are not thinking of getting Sourav on board. It is not even a remote possibility in the future.” With Dhoni already under their umbrella and now Fleming soon to be roped in, Pune franchise are sending out strong signals to all the other teams.
