South African chinaman bowler Tabraiz Shamsi has been called upon to replace West Indies leg-spinner Samuel Badree in the Royalk Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for the rest of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016. Badree has been ruled out due to an injury. Shamsi was particularly impressive in the Caribbean Plemier League (CPL) in the previous edition, where he picked up 11 wickets. He represents Titans in South Africa’s domestic circuit. RCB have just won one out of their three matches in the tournament so far. Badree was the star for West Indies in their recent win in the T20 World Cup 2016. It will be difficult for Shamsi to break into the RCB side, but he will come in handy when the team needs an extra spinner. Allan Donald, RCB’s bowling coach had good things to say about Shamsi. He said,”Meet our new mysterious spinner. He has arrived from Johannesburg this morning. Yet to get to know him a lot better but Ive seen him bowl for the Titans. He is very successful with what hes done in the past couple of years so I think Dan has made a good buy for us. So lookout for a lot of mystery balls in there!,”as quoted by

Shamsi is also termed as a mystery spinner — a tag the likes of Ajantha Mendis and Sunil Narine have carried throughout their careers. It will be interesting to see if Virat Kohli fields Shamsi in the next few matches, just to surprise the opposition. Shamsi’s experience in CPL may come in handy at the IPL as well.
