New Delhi: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016 begins its first ever trophy tour starting March 19. Making its debut from Pune, the IPL 2016 trophy will travel to six different cities in India ending its journey in Mumbai, home to last year’s champions Mumbai Indians. “This is the first ever trophy tour which will not only promote the league but will also give cricket fans across the country a chance to witness the trophy first hand in their cities. With new title sponsor Vivo on board, we are thrilled to embark on this exciting six-city tour to showcase the trophy,” IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla said on Wednesday. The trophy tour will start on March 19 in Pune and will travel to Hyderabad (March 20), Raipur (March 26), New Delhi (March 27), Kolkata (April 1) and will conclude in Mumbai on April 2 and 3. IPL 9 Schedule and Teams: IPL 2016 Schedule and Points Table for Indian Premier League (IPL)

Talking of IPL 2016 matches, Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Supergiants are set to play the opening match of the tournament at Mumbai on April 9. The schedule of ninth edition of IPL was announced on Thursday. Rising Pune Supergiants and Gujarat Lions are the two new added franchises after the suspension of Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals for two years due to IPL 2013 fixing and better scandal. The matches are going to be played at the usual venues including the three second centres—Kolkata, Mumbai, Mohali, Hyderabad, Delhi, Bengaluru, Raipur, Rajkot and Nagpur with the final to be played on May 29 at Wankhade Statdiu, Mumbai.

The cricket season has begun with ICC World Twenty20 (T20) 2016 underway which ends on April 3. Soon after, the ninth season of Indian Premier League (IPL) begins from April 9. The two new teams will join the usual six sides in the T20 tournament— Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians, Kings XI Punjab, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
