Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) all-rounder Ben Stokes was presented the Most Valuable Player (MVP) on Sunday after the conclusion of the 10th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017. In the final of the tournament played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal, Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated Rising Pune Supergiant by a narrow margin of 1 run. Stokes was not a part of the final or any of their matches in the IPL 10 playoffs as he had to return to England for national duties after the conclusion of the first round. However, Stokes had done his bit to lift the team into the second round. In fact, Stokes was one of the few batsmen who scored a century as well. Full scorecard: RPS vs MI

In 12 matches out of the 14 in the first round, Stokes scored 316 runs at 31.60. He struck one century and one half-century to get his runs at a strike rate of 143. With ball, Stokes was equally effective as he snaffled 12 wickets in as many matches at a strike rate of 22 and had the economy rate of 7.18. Stokes missed a couple of matches in between due to an injury that he suffered, but did play an extremely crucial role for the Rising Pune Supergiant s run in the first round. RPS had finished at the second spot at the end of it in the IPL 2017 points table.

Stokes continued to hog the limelight all throughout the tournament also because of the fact that he was the costliest purchase by any team. In the IPL 2017 auction held in Bengaluru in February, Stokes was taken by RPS for a whopping INR 14.5 crores.
