Delhi Daredevils (DD) lost yet another match as they faced Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) at the latter’s home in match 36 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017. DD were bundled out for 67, the lowest ever by the team and KXIP chased the target down in 7.5 overs without loss of any wicket. After the match, team’s mentor Rahul Dravid expressed disappointment for the poor show by the batsmen. However, he said DD can only improve from the position they are in currently, showing faith in the young brigade he is mentoring. DD currently sit at the bottom of IPL 2017 points table with only two victories in the eight matches they have played so far. Dravid said in the post match conference, “There is not much to say when you get out for 67 and they chase it with no loss in six to seven overs… nothing much to say other than the fact that we were pretty disappointing on the day in lot of our executions and our batting wasn’t up to scratch. I think only go up from here, if there’s any comfort in that. I think we are better than what we showed today and that is obvious. I think even in this tournament, there were periods of time when we showed and played good cricket. We lost some close games.
“In the first five games, we were two in three and the three games we lost were relatively close. But the last couple of times we have not played well. Even in Calcutta, I thought the first 15 overs of our batting was really good and then we lost it in the last five. And then here, we were really poor and we didn’t bat particularly very intelligently on that kind of wicket. We didn’t assess the conditions well enough and we didn’t give ourselves a chance.”
