Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) lost their most crucial match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017, against Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) in match 55. RPS won at their home ground Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune, to claim the second place in the IPL 2017 points table and qualify for the playoffs. It was a humiliating victory for KXIP, who were restricted for 73, their all-time lowest in IPL. Talking about the disappointing performance, skipper Glenn Maxwell said, a lot depended on the toss, which they lost. Maxwell also spoke about Akshar Patel’s commendable all-round performance throughout the tournament and thanked KXIP fans for their constant support. In the post match presentation ceremony, Maxwell said, “The toss had something to do with it. The wicket was damp after a few days of rain. It was just about assessing the conditions. Everything went against us and we could not recover. We have lost our last five tosses. Unfortunately in the IPL, a lot can be decided by the toss. We did not finish last, which was great. The way we played our last four of five games was great. Akshar was outstanding with bat, ball, and [in] the field. We will reflect on the positives in the change room. Thanks to the fans for the support.”
