Following an embarrassing seven-wicket loss against Delhi Daredevils (DD), in match 42 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi on Thursday, Suresh Raina’s Gujarat Lions (GL) failed to secure the playoffs berth for the season. Meanwhile, Gujarat’s middle-order batsman Dinesh Karthik is completely disappointed with his team’s performance and feels that Gujarat were just not good enough to secure the playoffs spot for the season. He also credited the Delhi batsmen for showing good skills, as they chased down a challenging total of 209, convincingly. However, he wishes his team players come up as a better players next season. “I think the first half belonged to us, but the second half completely belonged to Delhi and credit to them. I think they really played well in the second half, no doubt about it. Don’t think there was much dew. I think it was good skill level shown by Delhi’s batsmen and they were hitting boundaries at will, making the ground look much smaller than what it is. It’s been the story of our season so far. As for our batting, we wanted to bat Dwayne Smith up the order. I think he is comfortable batting up the order. We thought we will get off to a flying start, but didn’t happen really,” he said during the post-match press conference. “It’s been absolutely disappointing to say the least. We have just not turned up to the party and we are not good enough to qualify for the playoffs. It’s as simple as that, and there have been games where we have lacked in batting as well as a few games in bowling. However, overall it has been a very disappointing performance, and I think all the players are aware of it, while we hope to come back as better players next year,” he concluded.
