Former Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Monday faced an injury scare when their West Indies recruit Darren Bravo was hit by a rising delivery at the nets. A new addition to the squad, the left-hander was hit on his right forearm by a short ball from Ankit Rajpoot and he was soon grimacing in pain. However, according to team sources, the injury is not serious and he did not bat again at the nets as a precautionary measure. This is going to be Darren Bravo’s first stint at the cash-rich league after KKR picked him at the IPL 2017 Auction for INR 50 lakhs.
KKR are co-owned by Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla and Jay Mehta, who also own the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR), the Port of Spain-based Caribbean Premier League (CPL) franchise for whom Bravo currently plays. He has been joined by rising West Indies star Rovman Powell, who was also snapped up by KKR for his base price of INR 30 lakhs.
The two-time champion side was recently jolted when the Enforcement Directorate (ED) issued a show-cause notice to its owners Shah Rukh, his wife Gauri, actor-friend Juhi Chawla and others for alleged loss of INR 73.60 crores’ foreign exchange in a FEMA case related to IPL. The agency said it has also issued notice to Knight Riders Sports Private Limited (KRSPL) which owns the KKR. The notice has been issued for the sale of some shares of KRSPL to a Mauritius-based firm at a cost lower than their “actual value”, resulting in loss of foreign exchange to the extent of INR 73.6 crore.
