Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) bowler Jaydev Unadkat became the first bowler from the franchise on Saturday to have claimed a hat-trick in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017. Unadkat achieved the feat during Rising Pune Supergiant’s clash against the defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad. Unadkat’s effort was even more special as he created the record in the final over of the contest, when Sunrisers Hyderabad needed 13 runs more to win. The left-arm pacer made his franchise even more proud as it turned out to be a wicket-maiden, a very rare instance in T20 cricket as the batsmen swing their bat at everything to score runs. On a tricky wicket at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal, Hyderabad, both the teams struggled to make runs. Yuvraj Singh scored a crucial 47 off 43 balls and David Warner scored 40, but Sunrisers Hyderabad stumbled in their chase of 149. In their allotted 20 overs, Sunrisers Hyderabad scored 136 for 9, thus losing the contest by 12 runs. Unadkat returned with the figures of 4-1-30-5, which is the second instance when the bowler claimed a five-wicket haul in IPL. He is also the second bowler after James Faulkner to have registered two five-wicket hauls in IPL history.
In the final over, Sunrisers Hyderabad crumbled with none of their batsmen connecting the ball properly. Bipul Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Rashid Khan were the batsmen who were dismissed on the second, third and fourth delivery of the over. Unadkat also completed his 100 wickets in IPL. With this win, Rising Pune Supergiant now have 16 points in 12 matches, and are looking set to progress into the next round.
Earlier in the IPL, Andre Tye for Gujarat Lions (GL) and Samuel Badree for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) had claimed hat-tricks.
