David Warner was honoured with the Orange Cap in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 after he finished as the leading run-scorer in the 10th edition of the tournament. Warner’s team Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) were the defending champions in IPL 2017, but crashed out of the race for the final, losing in one of the most unfortunate ways in a rain-affected Eliminator against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). This is not the first time Warner has won the IPL’s Orange Cap: he had scored 562 runs from 14 matches in IPL 2015 to finish as the leading run-scorer. Full scorecard: RPS vs MI
In IPL 2017, Warner finished as the only batsman who made 600. In fact, no other batsman could breach the 500-run mark in a tournament where Warner smacked 641 runs in 14 matches at 58.27. Warner hit a century and 4 fifties in the tournament. Warner’s century against Kolkata Knight Riders was one of the most brutal knocks seen in the tournament this year. He swatted as many as 63 boundaries and 26 sixes over the tournament season. Interestingly, Glenn Maxwell, who scored 310 runs in 14 matches, did not even have a fifty to his name but smacked 26 sixes, which is the joint highest this season.
Sunrisers Hyderabad had finished in the fourth spot of the IPL 2017 points table. SRH took on KKR in the Eliminator, a match truncated by rain in Bengaluru. In a low-scoring game, SRH lost by 7 wickets by the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method.
