AB de Villiers single-handedly took Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) across the line against Delhi Daredevils (DD) in match 19 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018. ABD scored 90* in 39 balls to lift RCB to their second win this season as they chased down 175 with 2 overs to spare. Speaking after receiving the Man of the Match award, de Villiers spoke about how he made adjustments to his batting after failures in his last two innings: “It’s one of those nights when you see the ball well. The last two innings I wasn’t hitting it too well, but today I felt it coming off the middle, watched it nice and early, bought myself that extra split second and that’s when I need to cash in.

He also went on to praise the ever-loud and buoyant Chinnaswamy crowd: This is the best crowd in the world; I love playing here. They keep backing us every game but I must say, whenever you get into that zone that crowd is only a buzz. And most of it today was a buzz.”

Finally ABD lauded his bat makers as well. He said: “[On the ‘genius’ in his bat] I didn’t give myself that name, MRF did it (smiles). It’s a privilege playing with these bats, it’s some good stuff.”
