Asked to bat first, Delhi Daredevils (DD) managed 174 for 5 in 20 overs against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). DD were helped with fifties from Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant in match 19 of Indian Premier League (IPL) at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. For RCB, Umesh Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal and Chris Woakes were the standout bowlers.
Gautam Gambhir’s poor run of form continued in IPL. He was dismissed for 3 by former DD player Umesh Yadav, who bowled an excellent opening spell. Gambhir became Yadav’s 99th IPL wicket as he was too late on a pull. Jason Roy, all at sea against Chahal, tried to cut one too close to his body and was bowled for 5.
Iyer and Pant resisted RCB’s onslaught denying them wickets. Iyer led the charge in the beginning. He reached his seventh IPL fifty in 29 deliveries, and hit 4 fours and 3 sixes. In the same over he fell, trying to stretch outside off to Washington Sundar and top-edging in the process. Glenn Maxwell lasted just 6 balls before trying a reverse-sweep off Chahal and top-edging.
Pant upped the ante and reached his 4th IPL fifty in 34-balls. He played some terrific strokes, the finest being a superbly timed reverse-sweep off Mohammed Siraj for six. He scored 41 runs out of a 50-run stand with Rahul Tewatia, who was promoted above Chris Morris. Pant smoked Woakes for 18 in the penultimate over: 6,0,0,4lb,4,4. He was out for a 48-ball 85, trying to smack Corey Anderson for a six over long on. Tewatia hit 3 fours as well.
Both sides made a change apiece: RCB brought in Manan Vohra for Sarfaraz Khan, while DD replaced Mohammed Shami with Harshal Patel.
Brief scores:
Delhi Daredevils 174 for 5 [Shreyas Iyer 52(31) , Rishabh Pant 85(48) ; Yuzvendra Chahal 3-0-22-2] vs Royal Challengers Bangalore
