Suresh Raina reclaimed the top spot on the list of highest run-getters in IPL history, during Qualifier 1 of VIVO IPL 2018 between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. The record was previously held by Virat Kohli, who has 4,948 runs at 38.35 from 163 matches. Raina now has 4,953 runs from 175 matches at almost 34. Kohli had gone past past Raina’s tally during match 14 between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Mumbai Indians (MI). Raina has a century and 34 half-centuries in his career, and has crossed the 400-run mark in 9 out of 11 IPL seasons (he had 399 and 374 in the other two).
SRH were restricted to 139 for 7 by some excellent defensive bowling from CSK. However, SRH struck back, getting Shane Watson with the fifth ball of the innings. Raina, who needed 18 to go past Kohli today, calmly took a single to retain strike before hitting fours off the first 3 balls from Sandeep Sharma. A two and a one off Bhuvi helped him draw level with Kohli. The record came with a push to mid-on off the last ball of Bhuvi’s second over (the third of the innings)
