Varun Chakravarthy, the mystery spinner who was purchased by Kings XI Punjab for Rs 8.4 crore at last year’s IPL player auction, is in doubt for the remainder of IPL 2019 after fracturing a finger.

A release from KXIP on Tuesday confirmed that Chakravarthy injured himself during the franchise’s visit to Chennai this month which has sidelined him for a few weeks.

The 27-year-old made his IPL debut for KXIP in March, taking 1/35 in three overs. He has not played a game since.

The franchise CEO Satish Menon said in the release:”It’s unfortunate that Varun picked up the injury. But these things happen in cricket. We have great faith in his abilities and we can only hope that he recovers soon.”

Punjab are currently fifth on the IPL points table.
