Chennai Super Kings, who were sitting at the top till Monday, have steadily dropped to the third spot. They first slipped to the second on Tuesday night following their defeat to Mumbai Indians as they were replaced by Kings XI Punjab. Then, following SRH’s third win on the trot, have dropped another spot.
While all the top-three teams have six points each, net-run rate (NRR) continues to be the distinguishing factor – SRH have a NRR off 1.780, KXIP.164 and CSK .084.
On Friday, Kolkata Knight Riders will face Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium and have a chance to climb up to at least the second spot. Currently, they occupy the fourth slot in the standings with two wins and a defeat from three matches for four points and a NRR of 0.555.
Should they beat RCB, they will replace KXIP at second.
On the other hand, RCB are the only team yet to register a win so far. Should they manage to end their run of four straight defeats tonight, they will take two points but continue to languish at the bottom unless they improve their NRR which stands at a poor -1.901.
With two wins and three defeats, DC are static at fifth spot.
