An all-round show from Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) pushed them above Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Chennai Super Kings to the top of the Indian Premier League points table on Sunday night.
KKR were served well by their spinners and the openers in an eight wicket win over Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Batting first, RR were restricted to 139/3 and in reply the visitors reached the target at the cost of two wickets and with 37 deliveries to spare. (READ: Rabada takes Purple Cap from Chahal)
The win was the former two-time IPL champions’ fourth of the season brining them on level terms with the defending champions CSK. Both teams now have eight points each and KKR edge ahead on the basis of a superior net-run rate which currently stands at 1.058.
The defeat though made no difference to RR’s standings as they continue to remain seventh, just a rung above the struggling Royal Challengers Bangalore.
In the first match of Sunday’s double-header, RCB succumbed to their sixth straight defeat of the season, taking yet another step towards securing the wooden spoon.
They lost to Delhi Capitals who has had a mixed start winning three and losing as many to take six points. However, they did gain a place to switch places with Kings XI Punjab who slipped to sixth.
On Monday, SRH and KXIP lock horns. While KXIP have a chance to return to top-four, SRH can also reclaim the top spot from KKR provided they win emphatically.
The contest will be played in Mohali and starts at 8:00pm IST.
