That’s it. That’s the end of the IPL 7 players’ auctions. Day Two has witnessed some big buys — the interest for domestic talent was on display today. Few of the capped players who went unsold yesterday, got themselves an IPL team to play for today. While some big names still missed out.

 

It will also be very interesting to see how these team combinations work out if the tournament is played in the South Africa this season, as few rumours suggest. Stay updated with us, and follow all our analysis.

On the issue of captaincy in the Delhi Daredevils, Pietersen said, “I am okay with whatever goes, either its leadership or helping the captain or helping the youngsters.” Some introspection to do in England camp maybe?

 

Pietersen continued saying, “I love the Delhi family. IPL is a great cricket academy for the youngsters. I am there to help out guys in all possible ways. I am glad to be back with the Delhi Daredevils.”

 


 

 

In the meantime, Kevin Pietersen was talking live on TV and expressed his delight at representing Delhi Daredevils in IPL 7. He said, “We have got a good squad. On Day One all the teams bid for the players that were drawn in the auction. A total of 70 players were sold on Wednesday to the eight teams. Nearly 300 players will go under the hammer on Thursday. After today, we will get to know more about the teams that will be participating in the seventh edition of the IPL.

 

The likes of Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag, Robin Uthappa, Dinesh Karthik, Pragyan Ojha and Murali Vijay were sold on Wednesday. Yuvraj commanded the highest price as Royal Challengers Bangalore shelled out Rs 14 crore for him. The surprise was Delhi Daredevils paying Rs 12.5 crore for the services of Karthik. Sehwag was bought for Rs 3.2 crore by the Kings XI Punjab.

 

In the foreigners, England’s Kevin Pietersen sold for Rs 9 crore as Delhi used their ‘Right to Match’ option on him after Sunrisers Hyderabad made the final bid. The biggest surprise was Mumbai Indians not using their ‘Right to Match’ option to secure Mitchell Johnson of Australia for IPL 2014 after Kings XI Punjab made a bid of Rs 6.5 crore. Jacques Kallis went to Kolkata Knight Riders, David Warner went to Sunriseres Hyderabad and Michael Hussey went to Mumbai.

 

Today the auction will be for most of the uncapped players. A total of 146 players went unsold on Wednesday. If teams want any of those players, then they will have to formally subit a request and that player will under the auction. In the Indian uncapped players’ list, the likes of Kedar Jadhav, Mayank Agarwal, Unmukt Chand, Vijay Zol, Rishi Dhawan and Mandeep Singh will be some of the players that the franchises will want in their squads.
