Australia’s rising batting all-rounder, Steven Smith has been sold to the Rajasthan Royals (RR) for INR 4 crores during the IPL 7 auction. The bidding for Steven Smith started at Rs 2 crores.

The Shah Rukh Khan-owned franchise, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) took ages to kick-start the bid, following which RR joined in.

There was a frantic two-way tussle during the range between Rs 3 crores and Rs 4 crores. Once Rajasthan Royals reached Rs 4 crores, however, Kolkata Knight Riders dropped out.

Given that no one had a ‘Right to Match’ Card for Smith, Rajasthan Royals claimed him at a relatively inexpensive price. Smith, during his last IPL season with the now-defunct Pune Warriors India, showed his ability to hit the ball long and big in pressure situations.
