Mumbai(IANS) Jharkhand‘s Ishank Jaggi slammed a 51-ball 90 to guide the East zone to a six-wicket win in a high-scoring Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Inter-Zonal T20 cricket tie against the South Zone at the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday. Chasing 179, Jaggi raised a 64-run second wicket stand with opener Shreevats Goswami (25) before adding another 81 runs for the third wicket with his statemate Saurabh Tiwary (33) to help the Eastern side inch closer to a win. Jaggi, who belted 11 fours and four huge sixes in his knock, looked on course for his second T20 century before Kerala medium-pacer Basil Thampi ended his resistance with the East zone requiring 20 runs from more than three overs.
Earlier, skipper R Vinay Kumar (68) and opener Mayank Agarwal (72) forged an 112-run second-wicket stand to help the South reach a comfortable 122/1 in 12 overs before East skipper Manoj Tiwary pulled things back with three quick wickets with his part-time leg-spin. Tiwary accounted for the prized wickets of Agarwal and Vinay Kumar before adding Rickey Bhui to his list. Thereafter, lower order batsman Pavan Deshpande’s breezy 16-ball 21 helped the Southern side reach the 178/6.
For the East, besides Tiwary, Assam’s Pritam Das and Bengal’s Sayan Ghose chipped in with a wicket apiece.
