Rajasthan Royals have roped in New Zealand all-rounder Jacob Oram in their team for Indian Premier League 4, reports said.
Oram has come in as a replacement for injured English player Paul Collingwood, who was ruled out of IPL due to knee injury. The Kiwi all-rounder has been signed for $250,000, which is the same amount that the Royals spent for Collingwood. IPL rules prevent teams from signing replacement players at a higher value than the player they are replacing. Oram scalped 12 wickets in the ICC 2011 World Cup, and also impressed with the bat.
Oram told One News few days ago that he was looking forward to play in the IPL, though he refused to declare the franchise’s name he was in negotiations with. “I’m only a replacement for an injured guy, which is ironic, but I’m going to look forward to going over there and playing well, and who knows, maybe pick up a gig for next year and my career might just keep going on and on,” Oram said.
Collingwood will undergo surgery for a damaged cartilage in his right knee next week.
