Mumbai A Javed Khan showed exceptional courage on Saturday as he picked up two English wickets hours after losing his father.

Javed spent the Friday night in a hospital where his father, Mohammad Jayish Khan, was undergoing an open heart surgery.

The 22-year old all-rounder still turned up for Mumbai A in the second warm-up match at DY Patil Stadium and dismissed two middle-order batsman – Jonathan Trott and centurion Jonny Bairstow.

According to a report in the Indian Express, Javed texted a message to one of his friends saying that he was playing the match only “for his father”. Khan was reportedly buried in Mumbra at the same time when Javed dislodged Trott, says the report.

Javed’s long time friend Raju Pathak said the cricketer’s father had a wish to watch his son play against England.

He said, “By 5 am, we advised him to play the match. He was crying the whole night and was in a state of shock. But this match against England was a big opportunity for him. His father was keen to see him bowl against England. So he did what his father would have wanted him to do.”
