John Buchanan has coached the Australian Cricket team to great heights of success. Some of his achievements as the team’s coach include — A world record 16 Test wins, 23 ODI wins in World Cup matches including finals of the 2003 and 2007 World Cups, he has seen Australia win three Ashes series in 2001, 2003 and 2006. Under his guidance Australia beat India at their home in the 2004 series.

Post retirement from the cricketing world, Buchanan has been absorbed in the corporate world. He enjoys his new role, “It’s been good after retirement. Meeting clients, conducting workshops on leadership and team building, exposing th corporate world to sporting excellence and trying to establish a ,correlation between the two takes up most of my time.”

Buchanan believes the same ingredients are required for success in sport as well as the corporate world. “The corporate world or sports, the ingredients of success are the same — winning streak, clear vision, powerful leadership and growth as an individual. The time spent with the team I now use to motivate people, said Brisbane Buchanan to Times Of India.

He sometimes feels tempted to return as cricket coach, “I am tempted sometimes, once a coach, always a coach. But I have found satisfaction in what I have been doing.” He maintains some level of contact with the team he coached.

“Sometimes, I am in touch with that batch — Ricky (Ponting), Haydos (Mathew Hayden), Gilly (Adam Gilchrist), Kasper (Michael Kasprowicz) and (Jason) Gillespie through mail and texted Ricky on his birthday, so we have this fun thing going still. It’s a way of saying we still think about each other.”
