England batsman Jonathan Trott announced his retirement from international cricket on Monday. Trott made the announcement a day after the conclusion of the three-Test Wisden Trophy between West Indies and England, which was drawn 1-1.
The South Africa-born batsman, who returned to international cricket after his mid-series departure during Ashes 2013-14, had a poor run during the series, accumulating 72 runs from six innings at an average of 12. 59 of those runs came during the first innings of the second Test at Grenada, while Trott was dismissed for a duck thrice in the series.
The move garnered a lot of reactions on microblogging website Twitter from cricketers and fans alike. Following are some of the most popular tweets on Trott’s retirement:
It was emotional yesterday when Trotty told us. It was a pleasure playing with him. Such a huge part of our success. http://t.co/ojM7vXNiWs

Sad to hear of Trotty’s international retirement. A serious player with a hell of a lot to be proud of in test and odi cricket for England.

My instant cure for English cricket: Root captain, Anderson VC, bring back KP, Hales in for Trott, Vaughan/Gillespie to run the team.

Guess that is it for Trott. If it is I hope his achievements for England are given the credit that they richly deserve.
