Jonny Bairstow signs short-term T10 deal with Kerala Knights

Jonny Bairstow, the England wicketkeeper batsman, will not be flying back home from Sri Lanka with his teammates. Instead, he will be leaving for the UAE where he will be playing for Kerala Knights in the T10 League having signed a short-term deal with the franchise. Bairstow will be joining teammates Tom Curran and Eoin Morgan, who is the captain of the side, along with the West Indies due of Chris Gayle and Kieron Pollard.

The Knights have played four games in the tournament so far in which they have won one and lost two, while one game was washed out. The Knights began their campaign with an eight-wicket win against Pakhtoons before losing to Sindhis to nine wickets. The game against Rajputs was washed out after only nine overs were bowled where the Knights bowled, whereas they took a 36-run defeat at the hands of Punjabi Legends on Monday.

The Knights are defending champions, who won the title last year as Kerala Kings when they beat Punjabi Legends by five wickets. It is understood as per ESPNcricinfo that Bairstow will be available to play the remaining two group matches for the Knights against Northern Warriors on Thursday and Bengal Tigers on Friday. Provided they qualify for the knockouts, Bairstow will stay back further.

As England beat Sri Lanka in the third Test at the SSC to wrap up a 3-0 sweep, Bairstow couldn’t have hoped for a better match for his comeback. Sidelined due to injury for the first two Tests, the wicketkeeper batsmen underlined his worth by scoring 110 in the first innings of the third Test, which England went on to win by 42 runs. He was deservedly named Player of the Match.
