Mumbai Indians’ (MI) fielding coach Jonty Rhodes was blessed with his second child last evening. Rhodes, who was present at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 final at Hyderabad, took to Twitter to announce the birth of his son with wife Melanie. His son, named Nathan John, was born at a suburban hospital named Surya Child Care Hospital in Santacruz area of Mumbai, where his wife’s water broke. This was the same hospital where the couple’s first child, daughter India was born two years ago, also during IPL 2015.

Rhodes tweeted, “The prize before the prize @mipaltan? Nathan John “plunged” into the world at 6:20 pm on IPL final #poolbirth #earthmother #incredibleindia”. “The baby is healthy and weighs 3.7 kg. The mother is doing very well too,” said founder of the hospital Dr. Bhupendra Avasthi as per a report in The Hindu. Dr. Ameet Dhurandhar, the gynaecologist who carried out the delivery, said, “The water birth was extremely comfortable for her. She was up and walking around within an hour after delivery.”

Earlier, days before the final, India Rhodes was in the news when Jonty tweeted a picture of her alongside India skipper Virat Kohli, who responded to the tweet in a jovial manner by the end of the day.

He also celebrated his daughter India’s birthday with an Instagram/ Facebook post that read, “Happy Birthday baby India; 2 today #landofyourbirth”. Rhodes, who is the fielding coach of Mumbai Indians, has improved the fitness of the players in the field. Rhodes’ daughter, who was born in April 24 2015, was named ‘India’ because the couple said that they admired the rich culture and geographical diversity of the country.
