Wicket-keeper batsman Kamran Akmal, who received a lot of flak from fans and critics for his dismal performance in this World Cup, has been dropped from the Pakistan team which will tour West Indies later this month.
29-year-old Mohammad Salman will keep wickets for the Pakistan team, which will play two Tests, one Twenty20 and five one-day international matches. The tour starts from April 18.
“We have given Kamran Akmal a break because his wicketkeeping was not up to the mark during the World Cup,” chief selector Mohsin Khan said.
The selectors have also rested Umar Gul, Younis Khan and Abdul Razzaq from the squad after skipper Shahid Afridi hinted that seniors should be rested to give youngsters a chance.
Afridi will not be part of the Test team, which will be led by Misbah-ul-Haq. The squad for the Tests will be announced later.
Team:
Shahid Afridi (c), Mohammad Hafeez, Ahmed Shahzad, Taufiq Umar, Usman Salahuddin, Misbah-ul-Haq, Asad Shafiq, Umar Akmal, Abdur Rehman, Saeed Ajmal, Junaid Khan, Aizaz Cheema, Mohammad Salman (wk), Hammad Azam, Tanvir Ahmed, Wahab Riaz.
