England batsman Kevin Pietersen was full of praise for Alastair Cook after the latter remained unbeaten on a score of 153 off 327 balls at the end of the fourth day of the first Test between England and New Zealand at Lord’s on Sunday. “He is a fantastic batsman – Cook,” the South Africa-born batsman was quoted as saying in a post on his official Twitter account.

England were batting on a score of 429 for six at the end of the fourth day, amassing a lead of 295 runs with four wickets in hand. It was England’s day all the way through, with Ben Stokes (101) and Joe Root (84) making major contributions with the bat, guiding the hosts from 74 for three to 364 for four. Pietersen’s comment comes after his snub from the national team by the newly appointed Director of Cricket for England Andrew Strauss, who cited “trust issues” between the board and the batsman.
