Seventy-two-year-old sports psychologist Dr Rudi Webster, who worked with World Cup winning West Indies captain Clive Lloyd in the 1970’s, would help Kolkata Knight Riders in the upcoming IPL season 5 beginning on April 4.
Announcing the appointment, KKR in a statement said Dr Webster would be the mental skills coach and would play an important role in the team’s scheme of things.
“We are delighted to welcome Dr Webster. I am sure he will add to the strength and play an important role in taking KKR to the next level of performance,” Venky Mysore, CEO of the T20 outfit, said.
The Grenada-based psychologist was the manager of the West Indies team in Kerry Packer’s World Series of Cricket under the leadership of Clive Lloyd and saw the birth and development of the golden era of Caribbeans, who dominated world cricket for more than 15 years.
He also worked with the West Indies, Sri Lanka and India, having helped Virender Sehwag during the tour of the Caribbean in 2006.
