Ajinkya Rahane and Sanju Samson got Rajasthan Royals off to solid start in Match 43 of IPL 2019 in chase of Kolkata Knight Riders’ total of 175/6 at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Thursday, helping RR to 53 in 5.3 overs, before Sunil Narine send back Rahane for 34.
After Dinesh Karthik’s powered the hosts with a 50-ball unbeaten knock of 97, Rahane and Samson found the pace of the green Eden Gardens track suiting to their batting style.
Rahane, who his a magnificent 105*, albeit in a losing cause, in their previous game, started with a four off Carlos Brathwaite over the in-field before Prasidh Krishna was taken for 12 runs in his first over with Rahane adding and four and Samson mistiming one over the bowler’s head, yet got himself a six.
Andre Russell was taken for 13 runs with Rahane taking four past point and Samson taking his second six of the night.
Sunil Narine was introduced in the Powerplay overs and send down a tidy fourth over, giving away just six runs. But, Prithivraj Yarra was put to the sword by Rahane who hit in for a six and two fours in the first three balls. 17 runs came off the over.
However, KKR managed to get a wicket with Narine trapping Rahane in front for 34 off 21 balls. (IPL 2019, KKR vs RR: FOLLOW LATEST UPDATES). By the end of the Poweplay overs, Sanju Samson was batting on 20 off 12 balls while skipper Steve Smith was on one off three balls, after surviving a close lbw call off Narine.
