Following Sourav Ganguly’s appointment as the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) President by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday, Bengal all-rounder Laxmi Ratan Shukla spoke exclusively to CricketCountry about the former India skipper’s new role. He said, “As the joint secretary of CAB, he gave us enough time. As President, I hope he continues doing it. He has been a great leader and he can lead CAB to success. Whoever becomes BCCI President, should be from East Zone.” Manoj Tiwary: Sourav Ganguly is the best option for CAB President
India and Bengal batsman Manoj Tiwary also spoke about Ganguly’s appointment. He said, “He is the best option at this moment. He has a sharp mind on and off the field. He can handle the situation and as he has been a player he understands the needs of the players.”
Earlier, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, “We are going through a big crisis after his (Dalmiya) unfortunate death. Someone has to head CAB. Dalmiya loved cricket so much. So it’s important that the people closed to him (should run the show)… cricket family is most important. My only request to all of you that be together, remain united and take the Jagguda’s legacy forward.”
“It’s not fair for me to interfere. I just want them to do well, I’m there with them like a deputy or colleague. It’s what they have decided together,” Banerjee said. “I should not be announcing this but since all of them are requesting I feel that as someone (Sourav Ganguly) who had led India so many years should now take charge of the role and they should form the set up with Abhishek, Subir, Biswarup and all other senior members,” she said.
