Bengal and India cricketer Manoj Tiwary exclusively spoke to CricketCountry after Sourav Ganguly was appointed the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) President by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday. He said, “He is the best option at this moment. He has a sharp mind on and off the field. He can handle the situation and as he has been a player he understands the needs of the players.” When the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was contacted after Ganguly was appointed, the Indian cricket board did not want to comment. Dalmiya’s son Avishek was inducted as one of the two joint secretaries replacing the current incumbent Ganguly. Sourav Ganguly appointed CAB President by Mamta Banerjee

Former captain of Bengal and current chief selector, Satayabrata ‘Raju’ Mukherjee also spoke about Ganguly’s appointment. He said, “Ganguly is the best option. He was one of the most successful captain of India and there is no doubt that he can lead the administration successfully as a administrator. He should also become the next BCCI President. Among all candidates, Ganguly is the best option among all BCCI president.” Is appointing Sourav Ganguly as CAB President the right choice?

While some CAB officials had to depend on the interference of the ruling party, the Chief Minister of West Bengal clarified that it was a decision taken by the officials themselves. “It’s not fair for me to interfere. I just want them to do well, I’m there with them like a deputy or colleague. It’s what they have decided together,” Banerjee said. “I should not be announcing this but since all of them are requesting I feel that as someone (Sourav Ganguly) who had led India so many years should now take charge of the role and they should form the set up with Abhishek, Subir, Biswarup and all other senior members,” she said.
