Australia registered a huge victory in the first One-Day International match against Sri Lanka on Friday at Melbourne despite being labelled as a young and inexperienced side.
Even without the likes of Michael Clarke, David Warner, Shane Watson and James Pattinson, Australia defeated the visitors by 107 runs.
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, continued their disappointing form of the Test series, which they lost 0-3 to the Australians.
In the first ODI match against Australia, three run outs proved costly for the Lankans. However, Tillakaratne Dilshan and Dinesh Chandimal played their parts. The lack of partnerships didn’t help the visitors.
Meanwhile, paceman Mitchell Starc has calf muscle soreness and has withdrawn from the one-day squad.
South Australian quick Kane Richardson has been called up as cover, after Starc picked up the injury during Australia’s opening win in Melbourne. The left-armer took one for 25 off six overs, but his status for the remainder of the five-match ODI series remains uncertain.
There is only one change for the Sri Lankans, with Kushal Janith Menids coming in for Chandimal.
Teams:
Australia: Aaron Finch, Phillip Hughes, George Bailey (c), David Hussey, Brad Haddin (wk), Steven Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Ben Cutting, Xavier Doherty, Clint McKay, Kane Richardson.
