Live cricket score Australia: 212/8 | Lead by 360

A day of ups and downs for both sides. Essex were 299/3 overnight, and reached 414 despite the absence of Browne. Bopara rekindled memories of his hundred at the same ground for the same team against the same opposition with an organised 107. Ten Doeschate and Foster added 67, taking the score to 399/5 before Starc intervened. He ran through the Essex line-up with 6/51 as Australians took a 148-run lead.

The Australians lost Warner early, but Rogers and Clarke took the score to 77 for 1. Thereafter a collapse ensued with all bowlers taking a wicket or two. The Australians finished on 212 for 8, and still hold the upper hand with a 360-run lead. Clarke will ideally declare overnight. Will Bopara & co. go for the chase? It will be worth a watch.

Chris Rogers 32 David Warner 4 Michael Clarke 77 Adam Voges 1 Shane Watson 6 Mitchell Marsh 37 Peter Nevill 12 Mitchell Starc 13 Josh Hazlewood 9* Peter Siddle 13* Jamie Porter 1/38 Thomas Moore 1/18 Matt Salisbury 2/24 Ryan ten Doeschate 1/27 Aron Nijjar 2/80 Ravi Bopara 1/19

Hazlewood hits Moore for four to bring up 200 for the Australians. Essex’s target touches the 350-mark. Siddle hits another boundary, and it does not seem Essex will gt a chance to bat tonight. Bopara runs in for the last over, and Hazlewood starts with a boundary.

Moore comes back and removes Starc. Siddle walks out. Finally Siddle gets going, with a two and boundary. Six overs left. Thoughts of a declaration tonight is probably ruled out. Maybe overnight. Or maybe Clarke may bat on tomorrow. Let us see.

Live cricket score Australia: 172/6 | Lead by 320

Peter Nevill 11, Mitchell Starc 1

On comes Bopara, and Clarke welcomes him with consecutive boundaries and gets into a shell immediately afterwards. Nevill comes out of his 31-ball-4 stupor and hits Nijjar for four, but Nijjar has his immediately, removing Clarke! Yet. Another. Batsman. Bowled.

OUT! Michael Clarke b Aron Nijjar 77!

Live cricket score Australia: 150/5 | Lead by 298

Michael Clarke 67, Peter Nevill 3

A quiet phase of cricket. The Australians do not seem to be in any kind of hurry. Everything points at an overnight declaration, and perhaps a Clarke hundred. Remember, Essex boasts of Westley, Bopara, Ryder, and ten Doeschate, and the wicket is playing well — so a declaration may turn out to be tricky. A maximum of 20 overs left in the day.

Live cricket score Essex: 325/4 | Overs 75

Bopara gets off the mark for the day with a fine boundary. He then hits a couple of boundaries off the bowling of Hazlewood. Runs are flowing for Essex here. He brings up his ton off the bowling of Marsh and it works against Essex as Marsh dismisses the dangerous Ryder.
