Join us tomorrow at 9:30 am for the action from Day 4.
Till then, goodbye and take care.
Ciao!
We leave you with the DAY 3 REPORT here:
The day belonged to Bangladesh, hands down. A superlative show with the bat has earned them the Day 3 honours. Shakib’s 5th Test ton, Mushfiqur’s 17th Test fifty, Mosaddek’s maiden Test fifty on debut and gritty cameo by Mehedi enabled them a vital 129-run lead. The bowlers have not done their job as yet, but the advantage still rests with Bangladesh. The Lankan openers have done well so far, but Day 4 is going to be tough and will put their skills to test.
And stumps it is! Sri Lanka 54/0 in 2nd inns, Karunaratne 25*, Tharanga 25*. Trail Bangladesh by 75 runs.
Sri Lanka 40/0, Dimuth Karunaratne 16*, Upul Tharanga 24*. Sri Lanka have got off to a good start here. The openers have played sensibly, without giving any chance to the bowlers. They know the importance of this passage of play. With 3 overs left in the day, we will see spin from both the ends for the first time in this innings. Debutant Mosaddek Hossain, who was exceptional with the bat, comes into bowl now. Shakib is bowling from the other.
Dropped! Subhashis Roy produces a chance early on, a tough one though. Karunaratne edges Roy’s short ball but Mushfiqur fails to hold on to it. Decent start by Sri Lanka so far.
Sri Lanka will have to play out 13 overs in the day. Their first aim will be to keep all the 10 wickets intact.
Herath has finally dismissed Mosaddek Hossain, or should we say the youngster got himself out? He was looking for big shots to add quick runs and perished i his quest. Herath threw a flighted delivery to him, and Mosaddek fell for it. He stepped out to whack it out of the park, but missed it completely as Dickwella completed the formalities by removing the bails. Bangladesh are all-out for 467, they lead Sri Lanka by 129. We will return shortly with Sri Lanka’s second innings.
OUT! Mosaddek Hossain st Dickwella b Herath 75(155)
Bangladesh 458/9, Mosaddek 66*, Subashis Roy 0*. Herath’s 2 in 2 have slightly derailed the Bangladeshi march. With Mehedi around to support Mosaddek, the visitors would have hope for at least 150-run lead. However, Herath had other plans. While he got Mehedi fair and square, Mustafizur got a raw deal. But he had nobody to blame but himself as he did not take the review. Mosaddek would want to change the game plan now. A few big hits, and farming the strike should be his mantra.
Take a bow, Rangana Herath! 1000 first-class wickets

2 in 2 for Herath! He was on a hat-trick but Subashis Roy averted it. Bangladesh are 454/9 now. These two wickets have taken Herath’s First-Class wickets’ tally to 1000.
OUT! Mustafizur Rahman lbw b Herath 0(1)
OUT! Mehedi Hasan lbw b Herath 24(50)
Herath has appealed for LBW against Mehedi and the umpire has raised his finger. Mehedi has decided to take a review.
Bangladesh have begun the third session on a positive note. Mossadek Hossain, in particular, has looked at ease against Rangana Herath and Lakshan Sandakan. Mehedi Hasan should be complimented here for showing great resilience. Mehedi had frustrated the India bowlers too in the one-off Test against. So he can bat and he has been doing that now for quite a some time. And also the lead has gone over 100 runs. This will create a mental pressure on Sri Lanka
AT TEA, Bangladesh are 428/7, lead by 90 runs. Mosaddek 55*, Mehedi 5*.
A superlative batting show by Bangladesh, led by Shakib, has put the visitors in the driver’s seat. This day has been about their batting, as they have scored over 200 runs losing just a single wicket. Mosaddek has been impressive as well, while ever-reliable Mushfiqur also scored a fifty. Though they have lost Shakib, but going into TEA, Bangladesh will be might pleased with their effort.
Sri Lanka needed a wicket desperately, and Lakshan Sandakan, their leading wicket-taker in this innings, has finally delivered one. Shakib has finally departed after his 5th Test ton. Just as it looked like Bangladesh will go to tea with both these men unbeaten, a wicket has come against the run of play. Tempted to play a lofted shot on a tossed up delivery, all Shakib could manage was a simple catch to min-on. Bangladesh are still in control of the Test though.
OUT! Shakib Al Hasan c Chandimal b Sandakan 116(159)
100 for Shakib! 5th of his Test career. At 4046/6, Bangladesh are ahead of Sri Lanka by 68 runs now. #SLvBAN #BANvSL https://t.co/uVoEzOi6w3

50 on Test debut for Mosaddek Hossain. Importantly, it has come at a crucial time when his side needed it. Special talent#SLvBAN #100thTest

UPDATE: Test fifty on debut for Mosaddek Hossain!
Mosaddek, 21, has been the cynosure of all eyes today. He had a good ODI debut, where he top-scored for Bangladesh with his 45* against Afghanistan. But this innings has been far more special, coming at a very crucial time. He looks mature beyond his age. His senior teammate Tamim Iqbal had once said of him, “He [Mosaddek] may be 20, but his mental age is 45. I am astonished how he handles the tough situations like an experienced cricketer.”
UPDATE: Shakib Al Hasan and Mosaddek Hossain have brought up their 100-run partnership! Bangladesh now lead Sri Lanka by 54 runs; 392 for 6. Shakib has moved into 90s, while Mosaddek is one short of his maiden Test fifty on debut.
A quick stat on Shakib-Mosaddek partnership:
This is the 6th time in the last yr that Shakib has been involved in a 50 stand, but only the 2nd with someone other than Mushfiqur #SLvBAN

Thilan Samaraweera, Bangladesh’s batting consultant, had stated earlier today that a lead of 50 runs will be handy. But the way Bangladesh are going at the moment, they look set to get a lead in excess of 100. They are 376/6, with Shakib 79* and young Mosaddek on 44*. Mosaddek has played some delightful shots, especially against Herath. His drives, inside-out shots and good use of feet have been the highlight today. It is good to see how even without an individual 100, Bangladesh are cruising towards 400-run mark.
Sri Lanka have gained an unassailable 1-0 lead against Bangladesh after winning the first Test at Galle by a massive margin of 259 runs © AFP Hello and Welcome to CricketCountry’s live blog for the third day of the second Test in the 2016-17 Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh series, at Colombo. Sri Lanka have gained an unassailable 1-0 lead after winning the first Test at Galle by a massive margin of 259 runs. This Test presents a perfect opportunity for Rangana Herath to win his second Test series as captain of Sri Lanka. On the other hand, Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim’s side looked determined on Day One and most part of Day Two to make their 100th Test memorable. Bangladesh bowlers had a dream start to the match, but Dinesh Chandimal played a lone hand on Day One and first session of Day Two to take his side to 338. He scored 138 of those, stitching crucil partnerships with middle and lower order batsmen. Chandimal also farmed the strike well, playing alongside the tailenders. BAN vs SL, 2nd Test, Day 3 Preview: BAN aim to take lead; SL look to seize control
In reply, Bangladesh did most things right, as they first had a 95-run opening stand, followed by a 62-run third wicket stand. But last half an hour on Day Two was mayhem for the visitors, as they went from 192 for 2 to 198 for 5, before closing the day at 214 for 5. They still trail by 124 runs and have everything to play for on Day Three. The match is evenly poised at the moment, and both sides will look to seize control on the third day. BAN vs SL, 2nd Test, Day 2: Chandimal’s hundred and other highlights
With Day One and Two witnessing the honours being shared, Day Three is going to be exciting. Sri Lanka’s record at P Sara Oval stands at 9 wins and 6 losses from 19 matches. Bangladesh, meanwhile do not share a favourable record at this venue, a ground where they have lost all the 3 Tests they have featured in. They would hope the 100th Test turns out special and they change this record.
