Both the teams look pretty sure to get to the play-offs having won adequate number of matches. CSG have so far played six matches, won four of them and have 8 points in hand. VTV, on the other hand, have won the equal number of matches playing six matches but are following CSG as they have a lower net run rate. The one who win the match will have the advantage in hand and will be confident ahead of the play-offs.

Thalaivan Sargunam and Gopinaath are the two players upon whom the batting line-up of CSG depends a lot. The two CSG openers have been consistent run-getters of the series and hopes are high on these two to successfully face the VTV bowlers and score some good runs early in the innings.

Sargunam was very successful with the bat in his last match as he scored a 46-ball 73 and hit 7 fours and 4 sixes in the process. The other two names will be Sathiamoorthy Saravanan and Rajagopal Sathish, who will take things forward for CSG and help building a big innings.

In their last match, CSG faced the Madurai Super Giants (MSG) at NPR College Ground, Dindigul. The team lost an early wicket as Gopinath departed for just 6 runs. They again lost a wicket as next in Gowjith Subhash also could not score more than 2 runs. Sargunam stood like a rock, playing an innings of his own while he got support from Sarvanan at the other end. Sarvanan departed for 33 but next in, Sathish, looked in a very good touch. Sathish was the second to score a half century in the match. He remained not out at 57 and hit 2 fours and 5 sixes in his innings. CSG posted a target of 179 for MSG to chase. SV Muruganantham of MSG was the bowler who maintained a good economy of 3.25 an took a wicket while other bowlers were sent all over the park and had worse economies. M Raja and Maan Bafna took a wicket each while Ganapathi Vignesh picked up a couple of wickets.

Chasing the target, MSG never looked confident, losing wickets right and left. Arun Karthik, opening the innings for them, played a good knock of 34 off 28 but no one else managed to back the performance up. No other player managed to get to the individual score of 20 and MSG’s innings came to an end with 123 runs on the board.

Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore was the most successful bowler for CSG, bagging 3 wickets for 12. Antony Dhas picked up 2 wickets while Rajagopal Sathish, Dakshinamoorthy Kumaran and Yo Mahesh picked up a wicket each to hand their team a 55-run win.

The only thing the team would want right now is to get their bowler Yo Mahesh back in form. Expectations were high on the bowler but he failed to perform up to the mark.

In their last match, VTV faced Lyca Kovai Kings (LKK). Batting first, VTV got to a good score with a brilliant innings from Baba Aparajith. The start was very ordinary, as they put up 48 runs without losing a wicket. They lost two back to back wickets as Hari Nishanth scored 18 and R Kavin scored 31. In at No. 3, Baba Aparajith was the star of the match with his innings. No other player coming in next could do anything important apart from Ramalingam Rohit who got an 11-ball 21. Baba Aparajith scored 74 off 39 with the help of 2 fours and 6 sixes and remained unbeaten to take his team’s score to 170.

B Arun maintained a good economy while bowling but failed to take any wickets while Jamaluddin Syed Mohammad was the most effective bowler taking a wicket with an economy of 4.50. The highest wicket-taker for LKK was Harish Kumar with his 2 wickets.

Chasing the target, LKK did a very good job. The two start performers were B Anirudh Sita Ram and Harish Kumar. Sita Ram scored 63 off 47 with the help of 3 fours and 3 sixes while Harish remained unbeaten at 46 off 26 with the help of 3 fours and 3 sixes. However, despite the brilliant effort, LKK lost the match by 2 runs and VTV bagged the two crucial points.

The TNPL has been a successful venture so far with names like MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina and Ravichandran Ashwin being a part of it. The tournament is expected to bring out more talented players from Tamil Nadu through this league. The three teams Dindigul Dragons, CSG and VTV look strong to get into the play-offs while among the rest, LKK and Albert TUTI Patriots still have chance to get into the top four as they still have matches in their hand.
