Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live updates of Match no. 40 between Chittagong Vikings and Rajshahi Kings, of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2016. While Vikings are comfortably placed at No. 2, Kings are stuttering at No. 5 in the points table. In the previous contest between these two teams, Vikings edged past the struggling Kings by 19 runs, courtesy Mohammad Nabi’s unbeaten 87. However, after winning the toss, Darren Sammy invited Vikings to bat first on a belter of track. And of course, the plan backfired, so much so that Vikings registered a mammoth 191-run lead.

The Caribbean swagger Dwayne Smith bludgeoned as many as 34 runs, including 7 stunning boundaries. To continue the rampage, Anamul Haque scored a remarkable half-century and laid a strong foundation for the batsmen to come. But middle-order batters Grant Elliot and Jahurul Islam failed to carry the momentum, scoring 8 and 2 respectively. All the same, despite losing quick wickets, Nabi went all guns blazing and churned out 87 off 37, studded with six fours and as many maximums. For Vikings, Samit Patel took 2 for 21. However, none of the other bowlers managed to put a lid on the runs.

In reply, Kings’ openers added 44 and set the scoreboard on fire. Later, Taskin Ahmed got the better of Haque with an absolute jaffa. Nonetheless, Sabbir Rahman scaled up the run-rate by adding 46 runs to the scoreboard. But wickets kept tumbling, eventually falling short by 19 runs.
