Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s coverage of the second day of the first Test between England and New Zealand at Lord’s on Thursday. This is Pramod Ananth, and I will be bringing to you all the live updates from the first day’s play. Live scorecard: England vs New Zealand, 1st Test, Lord’s, Day 2

England begin Day Two of the first Test against New Zealand at 354 for seven at Lord’s. England, earlier on Day One were reduced to 30 for four. with openers Alastair Cook, Adam Lyth, Gary Ballance and Ian Bell back into the pavilion for very low scores. Like he has done ofter, Joe Root once again pulled England out of trouble, but he was reduced just two short of a well deserved century. England reach 354/7 against New Zealand at stumps on Day 1 of 1st Test at Lord’s

Ben Stokes played good counter-attacking cricket as he put on a 161-run stand for the fifth wicket with Root on his way to a 94-ball 92. He played one short too many and he was cleaned up by off-spinner Mark Craig, who picked up his first wicket of the match. Jos Buttler was unfortunately dismissed off the last ball of the day by Trent Boult, but he too made a significant contribution of 67 and put on 103 runs for the sixth wicket, again with Root. England face toughest summer amid controversies, New Zealand series likely to set the tone

New Zealand will now have to get rid of Moeen Ali (49*) and the rest of the tail very quickly and look to avoid the deficit set by England. New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum won the toss and elected to bowl first and seemed like he made the right decision until England fought back bravely. Stuart Broad still has a lot to offer in England colours
