Hello and Welcome to CricketCountry’s live coverage of the first of the five-match One-Day International (ODI) series between hosts England and visitors Sri Lanka, at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on Tuesday. I am Vishal Mehra, and I will be bringing to you the live updates form today’s game. England have had an exciting few weeks in the past, as they drubbed the Lankans to a 2-0 defeat in the just concluded three-match Test series, and would aim to do so in the ODIs as well. However, ODIs being a different ball game could be the other way around, as Sri Lanka are definitely well known to be a dangerous side in this format. LIVE CRICKET SCORES & UPDATES: England 286/8 in Over 50 |Target 287|BATTING|Chris Woakes 95(92), Liam Plukett 22(11): It came right down to the wire as England were put to chase. Plunkett hits a six off the last ball to finish off the proceedings at Nottingham to tie the match. Buttler got out in a crunch situation leaving Woakes for the big task and missing his century by seven runs as well. David Willey came in to bat but didn’t do much. He wasted a few may runs to make the target look a little out of reach. Woakes held his nerve and started scoring runs which was fairly complimented by Plunkett at the other end. In the last over they needed 14 runs to win. Pradeep bowled an excellent over till the second last delivery. Seven runs were needed off the last ball as Plunkett struck the ball over the bowler’s head for a six. The game ended in a tie as 100 overs of play couldn’t decide a winner out of these two teams.

Woakes completes his half century. He is now picking up boundaries as runs start coming from both ends. As long as these two are there England has every chance to pull off a victory today.

Buttler is showing exemplary patience and skill. He is looking determined to take his side home. He is getting support from Woakes who has settled at the crease now. Buttler is picking up an odd boundary every now and then to keep the run-rate under reach. Sri Lankan bowlers are frustrated by the way things are proceeding here. They still need 112 runs from 90 balls.

Woakes is trying to give Buttler as many strike he can. Buttler is looking a bit frustrated with the way things are going. They still need 160 runs from 22 overs which is just under 8 runs per over. They need a boundary every over now to keep the run rate under radar. Buttler is looking to hit the ball for boundaries but haven’t quite succeeded in doing so.

They have lost six wickets as Moeen Ali commits suicide by dragging the ball onto his stumps. Buttler is knocking the ball around for single trying to keep the scoreboard going whereas newcomer Woakes is trying to play himself in and support Buttler to get anywhere near the target.

Nuwan Pradeep comes on to bowl replacing Lakmal. Mathews is seen limping off the ground, hope all well as Sri Lanka will need their skipper to bowl his full quota of overs.

FOUR! straight down the ground by Morgan, his seventh in this innings. Since the boundary Shanaka has stuck to the line and length. FOUR! just as we were complimenting the young lad. Good over for England 11 runs from it. Buttler and Morgan have since the fall of Bairstow have managed to get some runs flowing with no more causalities for England. Both have given a few chances here and there to Sri Lanka grab wickets but been lucky.MOrgan in his 30-odd runs has been very rooted to the crease unlike is free flowing self.

Bairstow could only add 3 runs to the score. Jos Buttler out in the middle. Buttler and Morgan key if England have to chase down this total. NOT-OUT as Buttler slides his bat beyond the crease. DOT. Lakmal getting the ball to bounce for good length. FOUR! to finish the over, Morgan lucky to not find the fielder

Mathews comes into bowl his fourth. He has been the star up until now with both bat and ball. DROPPED! Jonny Bairstow survives as Mendis drops a simple catch. Bairstow was on 0 when he was dropped will he mat them pay much like the what happened in the Test match.

Root was looking lazy in his stay at the crease, gets the ball to nip back on to the stumps.Jonny Bairstow comes into the middle. DOT to finish the over. Both Root and Morgan have been cautious after losing openers Roy and Hales. Sri Lanka have bowled exceptional well with Suranga Lakmal and Angelo Mathews keeping it tight.

Maharoof Woakes bowled a pretty good last over giving away just 5 runs. Willey who could have taken his third wicket was denied as Maharoof gets another over to show his skills. Liam Plunket has been taken for runs in his quota of 10 overs. He gave away 67 runs while picking up two key wickets. Angelo Mathews was the massive blow for Sri Lanka going into the final overs. Mathews fell for a well made 73 runs from 109 balls which included 5 fours’. England have bowled well in the final 10 overs being economical with Woakes staring the show for them.

Morgan decided to bowl-out their best spinner. Rashid finished with figures of 0 for 36. Even after being wicketless Rashid kept on the screws tight. Mathews has looked in control while Prasanna has been on the attack and scoring at run-a-ball.

Both have been miser especially Rashid. Mathews brought up Sri Lanka’s 100 with a boundary behind square. Both the batsmen have moved on to mid-30’s. This is turning into a block-a-thon.

Adil Rashid has been pretty economical in his overs so far. Rashid in his 4 overs has only given 12 runs. Both Chandimal and Mathews have been kept quite so far with English bowlers going slow and tight.

Willey comes into bowl his third over and gets welcomed by a boundary in his second ball by Mendis.SIX! Mendis gently picks Willey off the pads for the first six of the match. Another good over for Sri Lanka 14 runs coming from it.

TOSS: England skipper Eoin Morgan wins toss and elects to bowl first England who reached the finals of ICC World Twenty20 (T20) 2016 under Eoin Morgan will want to play with the same exuberance and might in this series as well, apart from the final 15-20 minutes of the match against West Indies where Ben Stokes was cantered for 24 runs to end up on the losing side.
