Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live updates from Day Two of the 1st Test between India Men and Sri Lanka Men at Galle. Once again, it’s me Vishal Mehra, who will bring you updates and interesting tweets from this Test. The first day was all about Indian domination. It was Shikhar Dhawan’s 190 that lit up the serene Galle. He scored 126 runs in the second session, which is now the second most by an Indian batsman in a single session. Of course, the first name has to be a certain Virender Sehwag. Full cricket scorecard: India Men vs Sri Lanka Men, 1st Test match
At stumps India were 399 for 3. This is the second most runs India have scored on Day One of a Test. While Dhawan marked his Test return with fireworks, an innings that could be termed ‘glamorous’ and ‘alluring’, he had a patient partner in the ever-consistent Cheteshwar Pujara, who slammed his 12th Test ton and remained unbeaten on 144 at stumps. He has a well set Ajinkya Rahane for company, who is batting on 39.
Sri Lanka were disappointing on the field. They dropped catches and worse, they lost an injured Asela Gunaratne for the entire series as he broke his thumb while trying to attempt a Dhawan catch. Piling to their agonies, their skipper and champion bowler Rangana Herath went wicket-less. Nuwan Pradeep took all the 3 wickets to fall in the day. For India, opener Abhinav Mukund and captain Virat Kohli could not make it count on this batting paradise. If India continue their Day One exploits, 600 is a bare minimum at the track!
