Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live coverage of Pakistan Cup 2016. This is Match 7 where Islamabad takes on Punjab (Pakistan) at Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad. After a successful Pakistan Super League (PSL), Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has started yet another limited-over contest this year with the Pakistan Cup 2016 where five teams, namely Islamabad, Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. The teams play each other to acquire the highest points and qualify for the finals. This is a 50-over format game where international players like Ahmed Shehzad, Azhar Ali, Saeed Ajmal and Misbah-ul-Haq are engaged to play along raw domestic players. The share of experience and talent among the players are being expected to help Pakistan find new players in order to better the national team. TOSS: Punjab (Bat)
Both Islamabad and Punjab are coming from defeats. While Islamabad lost their previous match to Sindh, Punjab lost it to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. An able Shoaib Malik leads the Punjab team and has so far performed nicely but for losing cause. Punjab have lost both their last games despite decent performance. In the inaugural match against Balochistan, Punjab failed to chase 215 as the batting line-up collpased and they lost by 12 runs while in their last match they lost by 2 runs despite Salman Butt’s 77 and Malik’s 41.
Islamabad started with a win as they defeated Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by 2 wickets (D/L method) while lost the next to Sindh. Sindh put up a massive 336, thanks to Khurram Manzoor’s 90-ball 123. The score looked impossible to chase and apart from Misbah ul Haq and Hammad Azam in the middle-order, no one managed to put up a good performance which resulted in a 118 runs defeat.
